Beat licenses before release
If you didn't make the beat, you need permission in writing — before the song hits the jukebox, a streaming release, or Sunday service.
Ask your producer these questions
- Is this an exclusive or lease (non-exclusive)?
- Can I upload to Alabasta, DSPs, and YouTube?
- Does the producer get a split on the composition or master?
- Are stems included if I need to remix later?
- Is there a stream/sales cap on leased beats?
Minimum you need in writing
- Beat title and date
- License type (exclusive / lease)
- Territory and platforms allowed
- Producer credit line
- Split percentage if they co-own the song
- Both signatures (email PDF is fine for indie work)
Then: Register splits with your PRO and set payout splits at upload.
